Brands and their packages should be distinct and meaningful

Flint Design is a leader in brand development for specialty products. We help food, beverage and lifestyle companies connect their values to their brand, and position them for growth.

Our Process

CONVERSATION

Our work lives beyond logos and packaging. We begin every working relationship by getting to know you the deepest, best way we know: through conversation. We want to learn everything about your business and your vision, because our work goes beyond logos and packaging.

DISCOVERY

Your brand and story are unique-or they should be. Being able to showcase that difference is what makes your brand compelling. We research your industry, your brand’s reason for being, and your competitors. We ask questions. We listen. We challenge. We learn the complexities of your vision, and use that insight to express your unique story.

DIRECTION

We take what we’ve learned and lead you through a cohesive brand strategy and creative direction. This is the filter for all ideas and serves as a beacon to drive toward when making decisions for your brand.

DESIGN

Our design work has its foundation in your values, attributes and purpose. This drives our conceptual thinking and creative execution. We create the spark your brand needs to stand out.

COMPLETION

Because of our 25 years of design expertise and manufacturing knowledge, we see how design must work from inception through launch. We know how your brand must function from packaging to the web to trade shows-and we understand the multitude of production process it must go through to get to the finish line.

Our Team

CATHERINE HEALY

CREATIVE DIRECTOR & OWNER

Read Bio

Catherine brings us all together. Our collaboration keys off her ability to see a puzzle for its pieces, along with her flair for fostering others’ ideas and seeing the connections that come to light. Flint’s owner, creative director, and a strategist/designer with an eye for the big picture, Catherine sees every day as a chance to show gratitude, share knowledge, and help her team find grace in the face of challenge.

“All the work we do here is an opportunity. To grow, experience something, do better, be uncomfortable, find joy, and push our boundaries.”

Such exploration makes its way outside the studio, as well, to hiking in [Forest Park], kicking it around art museums with her husband and kids, strolling through the farmer’s market, or searching Powell’s for the latest addition to her 200-strong cookbook collection. Trying new techniques, considering fresh approaches, and combining it all with a high bar for quality may take a little more time, but like a finished puzzle, the result speaks for itself. “My favorite dish in any cookbook is salad. It really shows off your ingredients, and you can pair flavors for both contrast and harmony.”

HOGAN JOHNSON

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Read Bio

Hogan can find a reason to smile where you’d least expect it. The quickest wit and sharpest eye in most any room, she alternates between splitting our sides and illuminating the delightful details everyone otherwise might miss. An account manager, scheduler wrangler, and creative wellspring behind some of our key clients’ stories, Hogan brings a photographer’s sense to both her life and work.

“My interest is in the everyday ordinary. Things we pass every day and don’t see.”

So while most of us might overlook a muddy puddle, chipped paint, splintered wood, or a wilted flower, Hogan is always ready to shift her perspective and see something more. That openness, matched with soft-hearted compassion for the subject at hand, has served her well in all her pursuits—professional and personal. “If it doesn’t keep me honest, isn’t changing, or isn’t vulnerable—it doesn’t mean anything.”

EDUCATION: MA in Graphic Design and Design Thinking from the London College of Communication; BA in English from the University of the South: Sewanee

CRYSTAL PECK

DESIGNER

Read Bio

Crystal is serious about having fun. Her optimism and enthusiasm light up our space, and her way of finding the clever solution is almost as quick as her wit. No joke! A designer whose work reflects the beauty of intention, Crystal sees success as more than a pretty picture, but design built on content and context—with bonus points if it makes you crack a smile.

“I like making things from scratch—creating something that has purpose.”

It’s why Crystal is a go-to for constructive design critique—what’s working, what’s not, and why—and our unofficial planner of “extracurricular activities” to broaden our inspiration and enhance our creativity. In either case, she’s bringing meaning to the conversation, even if that means bringing the comic relief.
“Life is sometimes just too ridiculous not to laugh at.”

SHANNON PRICHARD

DESIGNER

Read Bio

Shannon always brings the right ingredients to the table. We’re amazed by her attention to detail and ability to take an idea and run with it—all reflected in her love of cooking and re-creating dishes from around the world in her own kitchen. A designer with an eye for picking out the strongest elements of a piece and elevating them, Shannon is known around the office for cutting even the biggest projects down to size.

“I like finding systems and seeing how they can be used to create cohesion.”

Never afraid to tweak a recipe or re-think an approach, Shannon has a knack of seeing unity in disconnected elements. But experimenting with colors and flavors isn’t the only thing that gets Shannon noticed: A lover of critters big and small (ask her about squirrels), you might see her around Beaverton, walking her tiny 5-pound tuxedo cat, Straea. “It surely garners some looks from my neighbors.”
