Siskiyou Sungrown

A Lesson in CBD: Cannabis Branding Differentiation

Siskiyou Sungrown cultivates the therapeutic power of cannabis. They came to us for a redesign that expressed their premium position, integrity and differentiator. Flint delivered a new design program to elevate their position, tell their story, educate clearly and express the power of nature in their products.

Since the 1990s, owners Cedar and Madrone Grey’s business has been a journey to helping those with critical health conditions heal naturally. Originally medicinal cannabis growers, today they impeccably farm high-quality cannabis plants at the edge of Southern Oregon’s Klamath-Siskiyou mountain wilderness. The legalization of cannabis led Siskiyou Sungrown to further develop its line of tinctures and RSO oils with full-spectrum plant benefits and high potency to reach a growing consumer base.

Kona Brewing Co.’s Aloha Series

Brewing Aloha

Kona Brewing Co’s Aloha Series was originally released in 1997. Decades later we were asked to help Kona relaunch this limited release series with a fresh design that embodied the unique Hawaiian Island experience of being immersed in nature, on the beach, with the stress of the day far behind.

The relaunch featured three innovative beers inspired by the idea of endless summer with flavors of hibiscus, coconut, and pineapple, and recipes based on classic island cocktails, which offered consumers a fresh alternative to beverages like hard seltzer. This program needed to feel unique within the Kona portfolio while staying true to the brand’s roots, which we achieved through custom illustrations, a new Aloha Series pattern, and flavor icons that could be re-imagined for future limited-release beers through new colors and typography.

As a result, the Aloha Series stood out amongst seasonal beers, engaged with Kona’s dedicated fans, and attracted new consumers who were looking for a fresh take on an old classic. Beyond a lift in sales and increased brand engagement,  Kona Brewing Co and its fans had a fresh new way to celebrate Liquid Aloha.

Nancy’s Oatmilk

Nancy’s Gets a Healthy Dollop of New Design

Nancy’s made probiotics palatable. Chuck and Sue Kesey were dairy pioneers in the ‘70s, innovating how people thought about health food. So innovative, in fact, it took about 45 years for the rest of the world to catch up to the benefits of probiotics. It’s only natural that Nancy’s would be the first to bring oatmilk yogurt to market in the US. Five years after they debuted, plant-based products had become overwhelmingly popular and Nancy’s no longer had to shoulder the responsibility of defining a whole new category. They refocused, reformulated, then came to Flint for a redesign to set them apart.

Coco Moon

Nurturing a New Direction

Coco Moon is a Hawaii based company creating luxuriously soft baby essentials. We were asked to help this small, yet fast growing brand connect with high-end retailers, boutiques and the emerging direct to consumer market. We tapped into what was true to Coco Moon–the founder’s island roots, her modern style and a connection to family–to create an elevated brand identity.

Every touchpoint of the brand and packaging was an opportunity to connect with the customer. A refreshed, hand-hewn moon and stars with Hawaii’s iconic plumeria, supported by a modern typeface with gently waved serifs, creates a logo mark that is playfully comforting with a hint of sophistication. We developed a carefree, island natural color palette grounded in deep ocean blue paired with sun-washed tropical colors, reflecting the brands personality and allowing flexibility to expand into future product lines.

The result: A repositioned brand identity that appeals to independent boutiques, department stores and sophisticated consumers throughout the world, while staying true to Coco Moon’s Hawaiian roots and local community.

Tillamook

Tillamook Grows and Stays Sharp

You’ve heard of Tillamook. The century-old dairy brand headquartered in its namesake Oregon coast town is an icon of dairy aisles and a staple of fridges far and wide. But that wasn’t always the case. In 2001, Tillamook came to Flint with under 90 products. They had eyes bigger than their stomachs, though. With a goal of national growth, Flint guided them on what would become a two-decade journey across three redesigns and a 450+ product lineup. A thorough design system helped bring the brand from concept to reality, making each product feel special, yet clearly a part of Tillamook’s story.

Kona Spiked Island Seltzer

How a Hawaiian Beer Brand Popped Open the Seltzer Market

Kona Brewing Co. is Hawaii’s answer to the craft beer scene. With iconic brews evocative of the island life and environment, Kona has created die-hard fans across the US and around the world. But recent US beer sales have declined as the hard seltzer market exploded—and Kona knew this trend was here to stay. While the tendency for a new seltzer line may have been to lean into the ubiquitous white packaging of leaders like White Claw and Truly, we led the team in branding their line of Spiked Island Seltzer the Kona way. Instead of simply making Kona fit into the seltzer category, we defined what hard seltzer was for Kona. By leveraging the brand’s story, we were able to disrupt the crowded seltzer can shelf line-up, and introduce a new option to Kona’s Ohana and hard seltzer drinkers alike.

Werner Gourmet Meat Snacks

Chew on Our Rebrand of an Iconic Oregon Jerky Company

The family behind Tillamook, Oregon’s, Werner Gourmet Meat Snacks is rowdy, irreverent and passionate. After 25 years in business and in the midst of a snack food renaissance, their brand was being overlooked. Their packaging was dated and didn’t reflect the quality of the product or the brand’s history. It was time to sink their teeth into a remedy. With a stable of cured-meat snacks at the fingertips of everyone from long-haul truckers to soccer moms, Werner needed to figure out how to get their foot back in the door. We led the Werner family through a brand redesign to reignite the consumer’s lasting love of their product—with a healthy dose of seasoning for extra flavor.

Reser’s

Flint Brings Something New to the Table

Reser’s brings delicious, restaurant-quality sides to the dinner table. Going on seven decades and four generations, Reser’s Fine Foods have been deli department staples, synonymous with quality, flavor and trust. However, when their sensational side’s sales began to decline due to lost distribution, an unfocused brand and packaging that felt outdated, Reser’s needed to find their way back on the menu. We stepped up to the table, researched the market landscape, analyzed consumer behavior and identified a way forward for their sides that included a redesigned package, new photography direction and messaging that would resonate with their target customer.

Nancy’s Probiotic Foods

An Oregon Original Blazes the Trail
for Natural Foods and Probiotics

Nancy’s, the probiotics pioneer. In 1970, Chuck and Sue Kesey helped found the natural foods movement and were the first to introduce live probiotic cultures in their yogurt. Their scientific ingenuity continues to lead the health food market today.

A beloved regional brand in the Pacific Northwest, Nancy’s wanted to reach a national audience and turned to Flint in 2017 to help reposition their brand for growth. We created two distinct visual programs for their Organic and Conventional lines so that Nancy’s would appeal to a broad set of retailers and consumers. Our design strategy made a point of nurturing existing customer loyalty, never straying from Nancy’s Oregon roots and counter-cultural perspective.

For the past two decades and into the future, Flint continues to bolster and reinforce Nancy’s reputation as the original probiotic pioneer and leader in natural foods.

Square Mile Cider

Square Mile Cider

Sometimes the best inspiration is right in your backyard. To refresh a brand for Square Mile Cider, we looked no further than our shared home in the Pacific Northwest, a place known for its adventurous spirit and bearded pioneers—historic and modern alike.

Inspired by National and State Park signage and the rugged beauty that surrounds them, we set our compass toward a tactile, natural feel, with small details to bring an extra sense of Pacific Northwest personality.

The result: A bold logo, easy to read from down the trail, with a badge-like quality that effortlessly transcends a variety of media and greets the viewer with a sense that adventure awaits.
